There’s a downstairs area with board games and upstairs for ping pong and shuffleboard. If you’re interested in a tour, you can pay $10 for a branded glass and three beer tokens on the first or third Saturday of the month. There are several great breweries in the Design District, which have led to beer tours just of this area. Community Beer Company has a large space in the neighborhood that includes tons of rooms for yard games and board games.

The “maximalist” space includes neon pink lighting, floral prints and a custom printed mural on the ceiling. The mix of outdoor, high-top and booth seating makes for a comfortable space to hang out, work or grab a quick beverage, caffeinated or otherwise, any time your day should require it. The sign out in front says "craft coffee, wine, food," and word is the space will become a wine bar in the evenings, open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

What Schaffler really hopes is that they also want a Wagyu reuben or an order of shrimp tacos — since Ascension is straddling the line between coffee shop and restaurant. But the company is also testing a counter-service-only model at a few locations, trying to determine how Ascension works for all types of consumers. Jason’s culinary journey began at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel in downtown Baltimore. He quickly rose through positions; from cook to lead cook, supervisor to assistant sous chef and then sous chef. Marriott Marquis in Orlando, Jason led teams catering events with up to 2,000 guests spanning all day parts.

Ascension is hands down the best coffee in the Design District. It is one of only two shops in the area, but it’s still top notch Dallas coffee. An Aussie-style coffee shop, you can find Australian espresso drinks like a Long Black and Flat White. There also is a special Doki Doki cold brew, which is a nitro infused Kyoto cold brew. A full food menu can also be found here with standout breakfast bites like Vegemite toast and an Aussie bacon & egg roll.

The Mosaic IPA India pale ale is a favorite, along with their Texas lager. Other core beers, available year round, are Witbier, a Beligan-style white ale; Silly Goose, a fruited wheat beer; and the new Citra Slice. Having said that, we have an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with a great wine menu and a full mixed beverage bar. At most of the shops, customers sit down at a table and are waited on by a server, even if all they want is a latte.
Ascension has also launched its new evening dinner menu created by chef Connelly. The refreshed craft cocktail menu includes boozy cold brew, a matcha mojito, and Levitate espresso martini. The food menu offers shareables such as Latin chicken tacos, edamame hummus, crispy flatbreads, and heirloom tomato toasts.

Design District is a natural match for our way of doing business. But if you are on the more obsessed side of normal, may I direct your attention toward the fact that Ascension Coffee comes complete with a buzz-worthy Synesso Hydra Hybrid espresso machine. Suffice it to say it costs around $20,000 and is the only one in town. And if that fact doesn't make you want to sample the espresso that the machine produces, well, then you're clearly not hard core enough.

But that's also OK; the staff at Ascension won't judge as I have. They're extremely friendly without the usual smugness that comes with their level of coffee expertise. Warm chocolate cake is just one of the new sweets on Ascension's evening menu. You'll also find shrimp tacos on the new Ascension evening menu.
Ascension Coffee President Bill Schaffler has brought on a new managing director and culinary director, according to the Dallas Morning News. Leading the roastery is Jessica Keenan, formerly of Allegro Coffee. Jason Connelly is the new culinary director and recently was most recently executive sous chef at downtown’s historic Adolphus hotel. After a three-month hiatus to redesign its space, Ascension Coffee’s flagship location in the Design District has reopened. It’s doubled in size, taking over the former salon space next door, and launched a new evening dinner menu and brunch menu. Delving deeper into brunch and dinner is part of Ascension’s identity shift, as Schaffler and his team make the case that Ascension is different than the other coffee shops in town.
His insatiable interest in the coffee industry led him to accept a position at Gold Stripe Coffee Roasters in Lubbock. Alex educated customers on coffee while honing his service and barista skills. His background in biochemistry quickly took him to Gold Stripe’s Roastery where he learned the complexities of roasting, which include brewing, flavor, and development. Alex’s time at Gold Stripe grew his love for coffee culture and its ability to impact lives. His passion continues with Ascension Coffee Roasters today. By now you’ve likely heard (and hopefully seen!) that Ascension Coffee’s DDD location boasts a brand new look.
The menu includes staples such as brisket, ribs and sausage, as well as sides like green beans, jalapeno bacon coleslaw and potato salad. And most importantly, happy hour runs Mondays through Fridays from 4 pm to 7 pm with canned beers for $3 and crafts for $4. On my first visit, I stopped in for a to-go coffee and was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. However, you’ll enjoy this aesthetically immaculate cafĂ© best if you linger inside this one-of-a-kind caffeinated pleasure palace. Saddle up to the slow bar and enjoy a personally catered pour, or cozy up on one of the seats laid out in the open and inviting space.
With more than 170 arcade games to play from pinball to Mario Kart, you only pay $10 for entry. The arcade offers all of the ciders from Bishop Cider Co. including The Dark Cide and The OG. Town Hearth is a Nick Badovinus joint known for its crazy amount of chandeliers, 1974 Ducati motorcycle and big yellow submarine in an aquarium in the dining space. The steakhouse’s menu includes a raw bar, prime steak cuts, rogue cuts and entrees such as Rigatoni Bolognese and a Waygu Cheeseburger a la Plancha.
The company makes small batches of coffee in its Roastery in Dallas. Haas Moto Museum & Sculpture Gallery is another unique attraction in the Design District. Founded by Bobby Haas, the collection includes more than 200 bikes that span 12 decades. The 20,000 square foot space showcases motorcycles from 1901 to the present day, as well as 50 custom creations.
